The Sr. Research & Development Engineer will be responsible for leading and supporting R&D project needs such as prototype fabrication, prototype testing, data acquisition, and data analysis. The Sr. Research & Development Engineer will apply their knowledge of materials, processes, techniques to an “unconstrained development” environment that supports SKLZ’s mission in creating world class sports training products. The Sr. Research & Development will continually push the boundaries of current capabilities and seek out potential platform technologies that expand the scope of SKLZ product lines.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Collaborates with internal and external partners to execute user research and testing in real and simulated environments
  • Understand and keep continuously informed on the competitive marketplace and the sports/training industry.
  • Review and synthesize data to uncover new opportunities and unmet needs
  • Communicate ideas quickly and effectively using a combination of CAD layouts, 3D models and physical prototypes to evaluate potential solutions.
  • Stay abreast of the latest relevant product, technology and industry trends.
  • Identify new ideas, concepts, materials, processes, products and/or features that put athlete first, reduce costs and keep our product line at the forefront of our industry.
  • Pursue new technologies and actively develop intellectual property.
  • Evaluates existing products for re-design based on issues raised by customers, vendors or internal team. Assesses functions to determine whether new product would enhance existing product line or provide additional function for customers. Collects data on products through reports, testing and customer information.

Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in product R&D
  • Must have at least 5 years of R&D laboratory or workshop experience
  • Excellent analytical skills (engineering and statistical data analysis)
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to perform basic engineering and design calculations
  • Proficient in 3D solid modeling software (Solidworks or similar) and Microsoft Office
  • Must be hands-on, highly motivated, and energetic team player to take ownership of R&D projects and lead to successful completion
  • Must be able to prioritize and manage several projects at once with an ability to maintain critical project timelines
  • Capable of providing innovative ideas to further product development
  • Detail oriented and analytical with excellent problem solving and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team atmosphere
  • Willingness to learn new ideas and procedures, and patience to properly evaluate new ideas
  • Adaptable to changing R&D priorities
