Primary Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will have day to day responsibility for the direction and oversight of the accounting functions and activities of the company.  The Controller will be responsible for the supervision and professional development of the accounting  team which includes accounts receivable, accounts payable, staff accounting and financial reporting functions.

This position will be expected to drive the required process, culture, discipline and technical changes, in order to achieve a best in class accounting and finance environment while driving consistent company discipline and behavior across all departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing, performing and/or review of work related to the month-end close process including balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.  Maintaining the consistent 10 business day close discipline will be a strong goal for this role.
  • Preparation of the financial, key performance and other value added reporting packages that will be distributed to the senior leadership team as well as the Board of Directors.
  • Directing all finance, accounting and treasury functions including the cash forecast, cash management, the operational budget, the month-end close, and all accounting/financial reporting.
  • Prepare, present, and interpret financial reports to management and external agencies.
  • Driving the implementation of key KPI’s, benchmarking and scorecard discipline across all departments with the goal to enable and empower leaders within the organization to drive best in class results.
  • Act as the primary liaison to the external accounting firms and manage efficient annual tax and audit processes.
  • Manage cash flows, debt instruments and related banking relationships.
  • Forecasting/monitoring financial information against goals and operating strategy.
  • Analyzing financial and operating information for management to facilitate decision-making and provide input for corrective action, where applicable.
  • Develop short and long-term financial plans and identify financial opportunities to improve organizational performance.
  • Responsible for budgeting and capital planning to support business objectives.  Ownership over the budget process and working cross functionally with department leaders while driving towards the approval process.
  • Manage the calculation and payment for royalty, license and commission agreements.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and systems for the company’s overall financial health.
  • Perform all steps necessary relative to hiring, evaluating, promoting, disciplining, and discharging employees within the finance department.  Assist with other human resources related tasks as deemed necessary.
  • Research of various accounting literature to ensure the company's financial statements are presented in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Assist the CFO to develop and implement short and long range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate department staff.  Continuous professional development of staff is a key requirement.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Consumer goods and/or manufacturing background preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience with at least 5 in a relevant role. Demonstrating career progression at all stages is important.
  • Strong knowledge and high proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling is required. 
  • Experience working with ERP systems, Microsoft Access and Crystal Reports.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting; MBA and/or CPA required.
  • Strong quantitative analytical thinking skills and decision making with a focus on process improvement and financials analysis.
  • Experience managing finance and accounting teams.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fluid, fast paced, high-growth environment.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and balance multiple priorities and assignments to meet deadlines.
